AoL Definition
Assurance of Learning involves systematic processes and assessment plans to demonstrate that students meet the learning goals and learning objectives defined for their programs.
AoL also includes the processes of identifying gaps and designing and implementing changes to the curriculum and learning experience so the learning goals and objectives are met.
The Learning Goals encompass the skills, attitudes, and knowledge students should acquire from the programs.
Esdes Learning Goals:
LG1 - Management Skills
LG2 - Global Perspective
LG3 - Effective Communication Skills
LG4- Critical Thinking
Core LG - Ethics and Responsibility
LGs acquisition can be approached at three levels, each determining the requirements that must be met for validation. As students advance in their education, the level of LG acquisition and the associated requirements also increase. The three levels are:
Introduction
Emphasis
Reinforcement
Learning Objectives (LO)
Each Learning Goal is broken down into the Learning Objectives, which operationalise the Learning Goal.
Learning objectives are the specific, observable behaviours and actions that are crucial in describing, monitoring, and assessing student achievement.
AoL Process
1. Identify the learning goals for each Bachelor's degree and the Master's degree.
2. Develop tools and procedures to assess student performance against these learning goals.
3. Collect data to assure the effectiveness of learning.
4. Review the assurance of learning data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in curriculum and instruction.
5. Implement changes to the curriculum and/or instruction based on the review.
6. Collect and re-evaluate data after changes have been made.
Esdes AoL system has been updated and simplified, the new system will be implemented on the academic year 2024-25.
